The Power Team

First and foremost I will begin by saying I am a huge fan of the Power Team. I have seen them on 3 different occasions and all 3 times I was blown away. I wouldn’t say I was moved on the side of Christianity but that’s not all it was displaying. It was displaying discipline for yourself and helped with self-esteem issues as well as persuading teenagers to stay away from drugs and alcohol. I felt the whole article portrayed the Power Team in the wrong manner. We also discussed it in class, and student’s mentioned it not being right to motivate kids, youth, and adults in a christianly manner, through strength. I personally think the performance is meant to bring people in and as is any event you attend there is usually a catch, and the Power Team’s catch is Jesus. Everyone has their beliefs whether this is right or wrong. I personally can’t find anything wrong with it.

NAKED!

The article A Plague of Tics was an interesting read. It gave readers a better understand of what it's like to live with O.C.D., for those who are not aware of it. I did find some of his humor to be insulting, because I have been close with people who have suffered from this disorder and they really have no control over it. After talking in class I appriciated his Sedaris's humor more. I also found the little bits of small comments throughout the article to be interesting and make it seem as though he almost had A.D.D. too. I also found myself relating to several of the comments reguarding being in college. For example, only getting a total of 14 minutes of sleep for 4 years, YES, I feel the same way! It was a great read!

Response to Klosterman's article

I found the article by Chuck Klosterman to be very entertaining but more so true. He brought about some great points, that I never took the time to think about. Now that I am starting to look at sitcoms and other TV shows like this, I see exactly where he is coming from. The statement that stuck out the most to be in the article was, “…because canned laughter represents the worst qualities of insecure people.” One would never think to consider this until someone has said it out loud. When watching these shows, I always thought they we’re actually people in the audience who found what the actors were saying to be funny. Sometimes I thought to myself, “what part of that is funny?” “I don’t get it?” Luckily I didn’t just laugh to let other people in the room know I got it and thought it was funny. Although sometimes if I didn’t laugh they would just look at me and be like “you’re blonde, of course you don’t get it.” Little did they know, I just wasn’t falling for fake humor.  Another part I found very interesting in Klosterman’s article, was the part about unconsciously laughing for no reason. I can’t tell you the number of times I find myself doing this in a day’s time. The one example that popped into my head was Rosanne Barr’s laugh, from the comical TV show, “Rosanne.” I loved the show, but having to hear that laugh every time the show aired, actually made me not want to watch it. I would like to think that canned laughter is sort of a tragic idea for TV shows, but in my opinion it’s just another part of today’s media.

Research Topic

All my life I have known I wanted to end up in a helping profession of some sort. Nursing has been my number one choice for quite a while, it combines my natural curiosity about health and since with the giving hands on interactions of caring for people. It also offers a great deal of flexibility within the profession. You are able to change specialties, change shifts, and work in a variety of settings. Sounds like the perfect job, right? Well, maybe for some but not all. So in order for me to make sure I grow up to get the best out of my career I need to make sure I don't burn out by time I get there!
Nursing burnout occurs when a person endures major stress and has difficulty coping. Lack of respect and power, shortage of nurses, and government funding are just a few of the reasons nurses are getting burnt out. With all the cuts in government funding, new nurses are now are thrown in the field with several responsibilities that increase their stress level. They are also required to try to deliver quality care without the adequate supplies and services in stressful situations. There are several solutions to fixing the burnout number of nurses. Those include, increasing respect and a positive image of nurses and the governments funding procedures. By doing this, there is unlikely to be a lack of nurses and the world can function correctly! This is why it is so important to keep nurses interested and happy in their field, because you never know who will be YOUR nurse someday!

Annotation

The article discusses the data behind relating nature with health benefits. When people engage in outdoor habitats, gardens, and other forms of being in nature, are more likely to engage in physical activities and other behaviours that improve human health. This engagement with nature can even cultivate people to become more exological sensible and motivate us to protect the health of our plantet along with the health of our bodies and mind. The point of gathering all this evidence is to offer framework for nature-based health promotion in nursing and providce related recommendations for future nursing research. Nurses can then use these promotion concepts to work with citizens, health practitioners and policymakers to explore and optimize the relationships among humans and the natural environment. This will contribute to a meaningful change in both environmental and human health in communities across the globe.

Repsonse to "Attached to Technology and Paying a Price" by Matt Richtel

Matt has a lot of strong facts to back of his argument that technology is taking over our lives and ruining our families. I agree tremendously with what he is stating. The world has become to addicted to all the gadgets and accessories associated with technology that hardly anyone knows how to carry on a conversation, face to face, without interupting to check a facebook update or new tweet. Although, i wouldn't agree that everyone is to the point that Campbell has reached, where he is literally so caught up in technology he can't even put it down on a family vacation. His wife feels neglected at times and tries not to get herself wrapped up in all craziness.
The research done on multitaskers was very relevent to his point and goes to show that multitasking is not a good concept. Multitaskers have a difficult time filtering out the irrelevant information, therefore making them less capable of learning what they need to learn.
Surprisingly from the article I found that video games aren't so bad after all, they are actually proven to improve your reaction time and the ability to pick out details and get rid of clutter.
I think we could all use a technology break from the world for a while and should take Mr. Campbell as an example what not to do.

Define: me

My name is Jenna, by birth, if it wasn't so complicated I think I would try to change my name. I come from a small town in western pa, called Punxsutawney, you know the one with the famous Groundhog, Phil. I reside in Indiana, pa, where i live with my 3 bestfriends from which i graduated high school with. My friends mean the world to me, as well as my huge family. I am currently a sophmore at IUP. I just transfored here from Penn State. Being closer to home is a plus, but i mainly did it for the outstanding Nursing program here. So far my experience has been going great. My classes are extremely hard but i'm really striving for a 4.0. It's sort of geeky just talking about my schooling, but right now my education is my top priority! On a side note, I'm outgoing and I am not afarid to speak my mind, watch out! :)
